Missing your free CBC TV?
No digital transmitter planned for Tofino/Ucluelet
Many people in our communities were up until recently watching the free CBC TV analog broadcast with their "rabbit ears". Unfortunately, contrary to popular understanding there will NOT be a replacement digital broadcast in the Tofino/Ucluelet area, so even with a digital converter box you will be unable to receive free CBC. There are currently only two digital transmitters planned for all of BC: in Victoria, and Vancouver.
Free Canadian Content Satellite TV available
Shaw Direct has a $15 million fund to offer a free Canadian Content package to Canadians who used to receive over the air television signals for free. This free package is called the "Local Television Satellite Solution" (LTSS), and will be offered to eligible Canadians on a first-come first-serve basis until the $15 million fund runs out. Final deadline for signup is November 30, 2012.
Once installed, you'lle receive eight free digital satellite channels including: CBC Vancouver, CBC Yellowknife, CBC French language, CTV Vancouver, City TV Vancouver, CTV2 Vancouver Island, Global TV BC and CHEK Victoria. The LTSS program includes: a free satellite dish, a free receiver, free installation, and access to the above channels at no-cost on an ongoing basis. Your only cost will be a $13.99 shipping charge for the receiver, as well as possible mileage charges on the installation if you are outside of Tofino/Esowista/Ty-Histanis.
In order to be eligible for the program you must:
- Live in an eligible area (Tofino and Ucluelet area qualifies)
- Have been an analogue user (previously received CBC over rabbit ears)
- You or your household can't have had satellite or cable at your address in the past 90 days
